Our Journey of Faith

Church members and community members alike have reason to celebrate the Summerside Presbyterian Church new church building in Summerside, PEI. The five-year project has brought a modern facility to the community, equipped with a 200-seat sanctuary, gathering room, nursery, fellowship room, and four classrooms. The space is warm and welcoming and lends itself to multi-purpose uses. The functionality is enhanced by an audio-visual presentation system in the sanctuary and fellowship hall.

The project began after The Presbyterian Church in Canada Committee on Church Architecture approved the design. The project team consisted of a building committee, design team, a “faith in our future” funding team, an innovative contractor, and the numerous and generous contributions of time, talents and treasures from members of the congregation.

Worshippers are more than pleased with the new facility and are looking toward new and innovative ministry opportunities, including a free weekly lunch for students at a nearby high school, a concert series, an outreach program for seniors, and theatre productions. As a service to the community, space is being provided for private counselling, rehearsals for dance and theatre groups, support groups, milestone celebrations, workshops, and conferences.

The optimism with which the congregation looks to the future can be explained using the words of the hymn, Faith in Our Future, written by Nancy Beck and church organist and choir director Pamela Campbell:

“We join in welcoming the days ahead, for God’s providing us with all we need. God’s love is guiding us. Our future’s bright and strong. With faith in God we will succeed.”
